Living and Learning Otherwise: Queer Histories and Inclusive Pedagogies
This workshop was presented by the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee in the Department of Art at The Ohio State University on March 23, 2022. It was held at the Wexner Center for the Arts.
This workshop offered an overview of key developments in the emergence of LGBTQ identities and social movements, framing such histories as the conditions within which we work and to which we respond as we cultivate pedagogies that embrace difference and invite more of who we can become into our learning communities. How might we hold brave or courageous spaces in which more experiences and identities are welcome while also exploring possibilities beyond the limits of ‘identity’? What embodied resources can we draw on as we endeavor to not only include people and experiences that may be excluded from conventional academic spaces but also to include more of ourselves in such spaces—especially parts of ourselves that exceed available categories or language? This workshop was a mix of presentation, discussion, and somatic exploration. |
